Statement - January 23, 2026
For over four years, TOYX has been honored to operate this City-owned landmark as a public heritage site, preserving one of Port Jervis’s most important historic assets while creating a place where railroad history could be experienced firsthand. Through extensive volunteer effort, the Erie Turntable site has evolved into a destination for exhibits, restoration activity, educational interpretation, and community engagement.
In recent months, the Erie Turntable site has been the subject of significant public interest and discussion, reflecting how important this landmark is to Port Jervis’s identity and future. The path forward has not always been simple, and the possibility of TOYX’s 2026 departure created understandable uncertainty for many. However, continued community attention has reinforced a shared belief that the turntable property deserves a long-term plan that honors its history and keeps it an active part of the city.
TOYX is pleased to announce that the City of Port Jervis has initiated conversations with us regarding a new, direct lease for the historic Erie Turntable property, without any third-party intermediary.
We are optimistic that a mutually beneficial agreement will be reached that allows TOYX to continue (and expand) our preservation and interpretation of the Erie Turntable property for the benefit of the public. We believe the long-term future of this site should reflect its historic importance to Port Jervis and to the railroad industry as a whole, while remaining an active, accessible space for residents and visitors.
TOYX is grateful to the City of Port Jervis for opening this dialogue and for recognizing the value of continued stewardship at the turntable site. We also appreciate the community members who have supported the preservation of this landmark and the volunteer-driven work that has taken place there.
Additional updates will be shared once lease discussions have concluded.
